THE SALAAM BAALAK CITY WALK

The Salaam walk city walk is conducted by a non-profit, non- government organization that works to uplift street children through education and medical care. The walk aims to make the story of the children of the street heard and to give guests a view of their world through their eyes. Guests are led through the streets in the neighborhood around the railway station by a child guide who once lived and worked in these areas. This is a unique way to discover another side of India which is full of hope and inspiration. Interaction with these children is an amazing and unforgettable experience, which puts smiles on the visitor’s faces as well as the kids.

KACHPURA VILLAGE WALK

In the evening, Take a heritage and village walk. This walking tour takes you through the villages across from the Taj Mahal, on the other bank of the Yamuna River. It provides a fascinating insight into traditional rural life and some rich architectural heritage of India. It is a part of a community development program where a local person is your guide. You will end at the lovely Mahtab Bagh (Moonlight garden) from where you will watch sunset over the Taj Mahal

ARTS AND CRAFTS OF JAIPUR

Jewelry is an integral part of Rajasthani culture – ranging from fabulous gems to silver and bone ornaments worn by the women in the villages. Even camels, horses and elephants have jewelry especially crafted for them. This afternoon you explore this craft, moving away from the traditional tourist areas, and going into the old city, where artisans work on the famous meenakari (enamel work) and Kundankari (inlay work with gems) traditions of the area. You will also stop at Gopal ki Rasta, famous for its wholesale bead market. Sanganer is the, center of the famous block printing and dying. Sanganer owes its success as a printing center because of a rivulet whose water has a mineral content that fixes dyes. You will also stop at the handmade paper center, where fairly primitive methods are used to turn waste material into paper. Later you can stop at the crafts center where skilled artisans craft the paper into a number of decorative items.

Indian cuisine is varied, and despite common belief is simple and quick to prepare. Each family has it its own traditional recipes and spend evening with the local family. They will introduce you to the many culinary and medicinal qualities of Indian spices and share with you some of their favorite dishes, teaching you how to prepare them

MAKE YOUR OWN BLOCK PRINT

Jaipur is famous for hand block printing, and is a great place for guests to learn this skill and create their own clothes. Guests can choose colours, pattern ans style and under the watchful eye of a master printer can print the fabric. Later the fabric will be tailored into a garment for the guest and delivered to them

BHOPA PERFORMANCE A LOCAL FOLKLORE

Watch a performance of the Bhopas. Bhopas are wandering minstrels, who went from village to village educating the local people in myths and legends of the region. They used a tapestry with pictures, song and dance to relate these tales and educate people. Today this form of communication is a dying tradition

FEEDING OF GODS

You will experience an interesting ritual with a local family at their residence. You will watch the unique“feeding of the Gods”, a unique tradition of preparing food to offer the deities. The food is prepared in private kitchens and served symbolically to the deities each day before being sold as “Prasad” or food blessed by the gods. It is considered very auspicious to eat these offerings. You will spend some time watching the preparation and being given an explanation on this
